Farrell (who moved to Ireland as a teenager) and Iris Murdoch (born to Irish parents but lived in England from a few weeks old) but for a country with so great a literary heritage this is still a disappointingly small figure. ![]() In the 44 years of the Booker Prize’s existence, the winner has only thrice been an individual born and raised in Ireland, Roddy Doyle being the first of these in 1993, followed in 2005 by John Banville and 2007 by Anne Enright. I started this post ready to jump straight into a discussion of the book but while doing a little bit of background research I stumbled upon a surprising (at least to me) fact. ![]()
